I’ve gotten it into my head lately that I want to shoot images that are natural, pure, clean – unadulterated by manipulation, makeup, photoshop and post-production.
Why? Well, look at my folio – it’s full of what my wife calls loud, colorful and flamboyant posters.
Everyone needs change. I’m in temporary change mode.
So I’m shooting Josie – she’s lovely. All my models are lovely. She’s lovely too.
But she’s a dancer and I love dance so for some strange flashback reason I want to do a ‘Flashdance’ shot because it’s so opposite of what she is…
I’m thinking grungy, sweaty, gritty, dirty and I choose a pair of red pointe shoes which are battered and dirty and she’s specially brought them for this shoot.
I’ve turned off the loud, thwacky strobes and the room is quiet except some very soothing jazz – Chantal Chamberland is crooning in her gentle “I’m giving you a backrub with my voice, Harry” way.
Josie softly asks “is this okay”?
I turn around, raise my camera and look at her.
I suddenly feel the air being sucked out of my lungs…
I was thinking grungy, sweaty, gritty, dirty, umm – wasn’t I?
Flashdancy, welder girl doing sweaty gritty dancy things?
This ain’t it! No it isn’t.
But I hear my brain saying “Look-at-that-face-LOOK-at-that-face-LOOK-AT-THAT-FACE”
I hear someone saying in my voice and with my mouth “That’s great honey – you look amazing”
And my happy brain is still saying “Look-at-that-face-Look-at-that-face-Look-at-that-face”
Beautiful Sydney sunlight is streaming through the glass…
I press the shutter.
So, will you Look at that face? 😉
Monday 25th February 2013:
Today I had the pleasure of shooting with the lovely Josie – minimal makeup- natural light and…nothing else – minimal retouching to fix the mesh and ribbons of the roses – no face retouch;
That is all! An absolute delight to shoot and work with…
